Reflections from the Artist:
"and I have filled him with the Spirit of God in wisdom, in understanding, in knowledge, and in all kinds of craftsmanship, to make artistic designs for work in gold, in silver, and in bronze." Exodus 31:3-4 I have always been intrigued by the craftsmen of Bible times. There were two men, Bazelel and Oholiab, who were empowered by the Spirit to have the skills to produce ornate objects. The metalwork of that time in history was exceptional. It also glorified God. It is my intention to produce works that will cause the viewer to ask questions, pursue and worship the Lord in thought. These sculptures are not intended to be the object of worship, only a means of drawing attention to God. It's His story, reflected from my hands, directed back to help others be drawn to Jesus. I feel good about what I am trying to say in my artwork. It has been fulfilling to express myself through this mission of honoring Him. It is my hope that you will enjoy the Holy Spirit inspired artwork of Iron Nature. Bill Johnson |
Meet the Artist
Following his interests in high school, Bill Johnson attended Penn College. Graduating with a certification in Welding, he entered the work force. Years later he enrolled at Millersville University and graduated with a BS in Technology Education. Since 1987, Bill has taught metalwork to students at Hempfield High School in Landisville, PA. He has enjoyed metalworking for over 35 years.
In his metals studio in Annville, Bill creates metal sculptures that reflect the nature of our Creator and the beauty of our natural world. A unique aspect of his business is the use of iron and steel materials, some of which are salvaged from scrap. They are cut, forged and re-born into works of art! Many different techniques of metalworking are used in this business. Some of these include hand forging, braze welding, plasma cutting, Mig, Stick, and Tig welding. We also utilize laser and water jet cutting. His artist's tool is the fire and the arc. |
